Project

"Real-time VR Multiplayer Network Activity Demonstration

Company: XCOM Labs

Year of creation: 2022 summer internship

Detail: A real-time multiplayer VR application designed to showcase networking activities in a virtual environment. The application offers an immersive experience to visualize network activities in real-time with all players. The VR environment mirrored the real physical office space with simple yet accurate calibration to align the virtual environment with the physical environment. The application was developed using Unity, C#, and Python.

Augmented Reality Structural Tracking Learning Tool

Sponsored: National Science Foundation (NSF)

Year of creation: 2021-2022

Detail: A real-time AR tool designed to empower civil engineering students with a hands-on understanding of construction loading dynamics on campus buildings. The tool delivers stable tracking on large-scale buildings under various sunlight conditions, providing an immersive and practical learning experience. The tool was developed using Unity, C#, and Vuforia.

AR Thunderstorm Simulation

Sponsored: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
Year of creation: 2020-2021
Publication: Wang, K., Meister, P., Winer, E., Dorneich, M. C., Brown, L., & Whitehurst, G. (2021). An Augmented Reality Thunderstorm Simulation to Improve Aviation Weather Pilot Training. Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), 21155, 1–13.
Detail: It is a project to create a lifelike thunderstorm cycle incorporated with training activity and scenario to enhance initial pilot training.  The app was created using Unity3D, C#, Vuforia.

VR Training Application for Safe Operation

Year of creation: 2018-2020

Detail: This is a large-scale multiscene virtual reality training platform sponsored by manufacturing stakeholders. The project was developed with a cross-disciplinary team using Unity and C#, which are compatible with multi VR headsets include HCI Vive and Oculus. The project incorporates a self-created control algorithm to achieve meticulous interaction during operation as well as provides data for post-training evaluation. In-process collection of data was exported as metrics to assess trainee's progress.

Trampoline Simulation from Scratch

Year of creation: 2020-2021

Detail: The goal of the project is to simulate the trampoline movement from scratch using computer graphic coding. The model was created in Unity but no plugin, library, nor Unity physical engine was used. The model was created from mesh with vertex and triangle and moved by mathematic and physics equations.

Using Leap Motion in Mobile VR Application

Year of creation: 2019

Detail: The goal of the project is to add control to mobile VR applications to achieve interaction that normal mobile VR applications cannot be achieved. The project use leap motion for gesture detection to achieve additional interaction for mobile VR. The goal of this project is to reduce the development equipment requirement for initial VR developer
